Continuity and Education

Introduction

In line with the IHC Merwede corporate strategy, IHC Dredgers is aware that all people grow older and older every day. The last consequence of this is, that every member of our much valued crew will retire at one day and - sadly enough - take their treasure troves of knowledge and experience with them.

In order to secure this indispensable knowledge and experience for our and the clients' benefit, we actively involve in a number of continuity-improving programmes. These programmes aim at the collaboration and friendship of people of all generations and education levels for sharing knowledge, experience, enthousiasm, freshness and wisdom in a natural way. Their outlines are:

Voluntary programme for retired personnel

Retired IHC Merwede personnel is offered to continue partaking in our business on a voluntary base by mediation of an employment agency. They can freely select from any available parttime activity and job-level they feel comfortable with. For more information contact our Human Resouces Department.

Skills development in practice

In our own in-company business schools, young people leaving secondary education with a vocational background are trained to become skilled workers. The on-the-job training, which provides a balanced input of theory and practice, leads to a nationally-recognised certificate. In combination with "multi-skill courses" and recognised business training, it allows people to attain a high school/secondary standard. More information in English (Dutch).

Advanced training at the TOC

Our Technical Education Centre (TOC) in Kinderdijk allows young people with secondary school qualifications to proceed to a more advanced vocational standard. The programme combines learning, practice and theory. It pays for school fees and books, and produces members of our community that can fully function in our multi-skilled teams. More information in English or in Dutch.

Programmes for university graduates

For working students, bachelor or master students, and trainees, there is a whole range of programmes allowing them to put their minds to work. There are great opportunities to learn, study, develop, show initiative, act independently and assume responsibility. These programmes create a great deal of personal and professional freedom for IHC Merwede employees, who receive coaching and personal support, allowing them to strike a healthy balance between  personal and professional life.
